Wellington, Utah - Sighting 03-08-2015

     On 03-09-2015, I received a report from a resident of Wellington, Utah,  of an unknown human like animal running across the highway (US191) between the cities of Price and Wellington, Utah. This took place at dusk, approximately 7:40 PM. The one witness (driver) told me that it looked like a hairy man, wearing no clothes. It had come out of a narrow concrete overpass for the railroad tracks, that runs parallel the highway, running across the highway in front of the witness, causing him to brake suddenly, almost hitting it. He had stopped, watching it cross the fields on the other side of the road, disappearing out of sight. After interviewing the witnesses, I went to the location of the railroad overpass, to investigate. The railroad tracks are located on the west side of the highway, approximately 70 feet away. The tracks themselves, are running on top of what looks like a causeway. The Price river winds along on the west side of the railroad tracks and the narrow overpass (approximately 10 feet tall) is too allow runoff water to escape to the river and not get caught between the tracks and the road. As you pass underneath this overpass, you come upon very thick willows, making it impossible to proceed to the river, which is about 50 feet further. The mud from the melting of resent snow, was very difficult to walk through. There was what could possibly been tracks, but because of the very soft watery mud, was impossible to make any kind of assessment about them. The area too the east of the highway is very rural, filled with many washes and does make for a good route too the mountains, avoiding the more populated areas. Of course, this is all just speculation on my part and thinking that maybe if it possibly was a Sasquatch, I decided to look for footprints in the areas north, between the two cities; not finding anything. The next day, I searched the area between Dead Man Canyon and East Carbon, Utah, finding nothing. There has been many recent sightings in about a twenty mile circle of this area, since 2009 and the latest was in 2012.

American Fork Canyon, Utah - Alleged Sasquatch Video by Paranormal Review

     This latest video given to Paranormal Review from a hiker, of an alleged Sasquatch near Tibble Reservoir, American Fork Canyon, Utah is actually a fairly decent video after it's been slowed down and stabilized, except the part where the witness had run, which unfortunately entails most of the video. The clearest and best view of the beast is early in the video, starting at 0:13 and shows him/her walking through the trees and this is your best view of this creature. The video shows a large massive looking creature/Sasquatch, with very broad shoulders with what seems like long arms. But unfortunately, photo's and video isn't enough for science to accept totally, falling way short of their critical mindset. You Tube has become a clearing house of hoax's, to downright fraud, but please don't think I'm judging this video as such. This is actually, one of the better video's of an alleged Sasquatch, but unfortunately it's going to take more than a video or photo to prove their existence. DNA is no good, unless you already have DNA to compare it with and nothing short of capturing or killing one, is what it's going to take. I personally hope no one ever kills one, but unfortunately, it will probably happen some day. I've been researching and hunting for evidence in Utah for over twenty years and I believe that there is a strong probability of a paranormal or supernatural aspect to this big elusive creature, that science and most other researchers will absolutely ignore.Below is a link to the  video, you will need to copy and paste.

Utah Bigfoot Files - Ron Johnson, Who Are You ?

     This will be a very short biography on who I am. My name is Ron Johnson, for those of you who don’t know me and hopefully this article will help substantiate, who I am and what I do. Born and raised in southern California before the massive influx of people and later moving to Price, Utah in 1971, the metaphysical or paranormal environment has always been a huge interest to me. I first started hearing about Sasquatch encounters/sightings as far back as the 1960’s, which fascinated my interest. Most of these were farther north, but the ones south of Bakersfield, were the ones that captured my total attention. I have had many UFO encounters pretty much my entire life, in California, Hawaii and Utah and I plan on starting another blog entailing this subject. Other than the paranormal, I love photography, hiking, exploring old ghost towns and abandoned mine sites across the southwest. I used to race stock cars, here locally in the Price area for four years, giving it up because of the time and expense.

     This world is charged with many unknown's or if you will, unscientific subjects such as, UFO’s/abductions, ghosts/hauntings, cryptozoology/ Sasquatch and many other subjects to numerous to mention. As a paranormal investigator, I try to indulge into a vast majority of these, but time is a very limiting factor. I’m the founder of Southeast Utah Paranormal, doing research and investigating Sasquatch sightings and ghosts/hauntings. I have done interviews with, Jerry Pippin, Patty Greer, Elaine Douglass (Journal of Abduction Research - JAR) Tracie Austin-Peters and with KSUU – FM radio 91.1 (Cedar City, Utah) RJ Hinder – Morning Liberty Show (RBN – Internet) and been featured in the Salt Lake City Weekly – Sept 24, 2009 (Touched by an Alien) and Oct 27, 2011 (Soul Searchers) have done numerous talks with Utah – MUFON and various other paranormal groups in Utah. My UFO encounters are in the book “We Are Among You Already” by Jujuolui Kuita (Chapter 17, titled NORJI) and also in “Alien Encounters in the Western United States” by Tracie Austin-Peters (Ron’s Encounter; Utah) I was on the show “Finding Bigfoot” which aired in July of 2014 (Finding Bigfoot in Four Corners) I apologize, if this sounds too much like a resume, but this is who I am and what I do.

     Even though I now live in Utah, as I thought, California was the perfect place to see a Sasquatch or to find Sasquatch foot prints, but in May of 2012, I saw the big elusive beast for myself, in the Book Cliffs of southeastern Utah. Next to my UFO encounters, to see a Sasquatch (with a witness) had to be one of the biggest highlights of my entire life. Okanogan National Forest,Washington - 1980 Encounter

     I interviewed a man, whom I’ll call Michael, from West Virginia, who had an encounter with a Sasquatch, while serving in the military. This happened in the summer of 1980, while teaching survival in the Okanogan National Forest of Washington State. I’m keeping his name and military rank hidden, too protect his identity. He told me that he never did believe in the existence of a Sasquatch or any type of an unknown primate and thought it was rather shallow minded of people to believe in such things. Something happened to him in Washington State, back in 1980 that totally changed his way of thinking. This is his story as he related it too me.

     Michael has been in the U.S. military for over 40 years, enlisting through the R.O.T.C. program. While in the military, he wanted to become a survival instructor and spent years learning the different techniques. After becoming a certified instructor, he would take students out into different types of country, for testing. He has spent many times in the Okanogan of Washington State with individual students and also by himself. On one particular survival outing in the Okanogan National Forest with two students, while sitting around a small camp fire talking about survival techniques, a big dark colored biped walked right into their camp. This creature paused for a few seconds, then turned around and walked away. He described it to me as being at least ten feet tall, looking somewhat like a hairy ape and very big looking and wide. This encounter took place late at night, with the only light coming from the small fire, so they both didn’t get a very good look at it. He told me that they couldn't get to sleep that night and pretty much stayed up till morning. There were very large, wide and approximately 20 plus   inch long barefoot human type tracks with five toes. He estimated the size by comparing the tracks to his own foot. The stride that this big animal had was much longer than what an average sized human would be capable of. Where they were camped, wasn't too far from the Canadian border and the tracks come from that direction and then preceded back towards Canada. He told me that he never did believe in a Sasquatch, but know he does.

Does Sasquatch Live in the Desert ? Answer is Yes !

    I get asked quite frequently, about the possibility of a Sasquatch living in the desert. The answer is a monstrous yes. Coming originally from southern California, I have been hearing and reading numerous Bigfoot sightings, from all over the desert areas of California, Arizona and Nevada. These come from the late 50’s up through this current time, but the majority was through the 50’s and 60’s. Southern California was once a hot bed of activity for the Sasquatch, long before the influx of population took over. I remember reading stories in the Los Angeles Times and many of the local smaller news papers, about Bigfoot sightings, ranging from Bakersfield to San Diego and as far east as Phoenix and Las Vegas. At this time in my life, reading about these sightings was quite frequent. There was a large population of white colored Bigfoot, called the Borrego Sandmen, in an around the Anza Borrego Desert area, south of Palm Springs. From the mid 1800’s to the 1960’s, this area had numerous Sandmen (Sasquatch) encounters with gold hunters and trappers.

      The areas between Tehachapi, Edwards Air Force Base, Victorville and Cajon Pass, was another hot spot of activity from those early years of the 50’s up through the early 70’s. It stands to reason, because the Sierra Nevada range basically runs down the entire state of California from one end to the other. What a great travel way for the Sasquatch to use. Just like here in the inter-mountain west, they have a fantastic way to travel, from Montana to New Mexico, by staying completely hidden in the mountains. With the massive population growth in California, the sightings have become quite sparse, but I believe there might be a few left in places, like on the 270,000 acre Tejon ranch of the Tehachapi Mountains, Los padres National Forest and Angeles National Forest. Does Bigfoot live in the desert? The answer is yes and without a doubt, I believe he is here in the desert areas of Utah, also.

Finding Bigfoot

      I was recently on the show “Finding Bigfoot” which aired in July of 2014. This was the last show of the season. The town meeting was located at the Strater Hotel, Diamond Belle Saloon and let me tell you, it was standing room only. Being in the four corners area, they had a lot of area to cover in a two week period. This episode had Matt Moneymaker (New Mexico), Cliff Barackman (Arizona), Ranae Holland (Utah) and James Fay (Colorado), splitting up and each taking their separate state.

     How I ended up at the town meeting in Durango, CO was back in 2012, I started to receive many reports of eye witness accounts of a Sasquatch and reports of prints in the areas between Helper, Indian Canyon Summit and Lila Canyon to the east. This is primarily in the Book Cliffs of southeastern Utah, Carbon and Duchesne Counties, between the dates of 2010 – 2012. All in all, I have 18 reports of encounters and foot prints in this one triangle shaped area. We filed reports of our encounters with the B.F.R.O. and in November of 2013, I was contacted by Animal Planet about our reports we filed. I sent some of my reports (with their permission) to the producer for his evaluation. The producer of the show asked me to come to Durango, for the town meeting to describe my encounter.

     The town meeting was quite interesting, as not just anybody could attend it, you have to be invited. Absolutely, no photo’s taken at all during the meeting and all cell phones off. Anyone caught trying to take a picture, was immediately excused from the meeting and not allowed to tell their story or return. I can understand their protocol, as it was a mad house of people outside, trying to get in. After approximately 45 minutes of changing seating and lighting changes, the meeting started. We all had to be out of the Saloon at 10:00 PM sharp and I was the last person up to speak. There were so many people there with Sasquatch sightings to relay, that when it got around to my turn, I only had a few minutes left to describe it. Because of the time remaining, I had to hurry in telling my story and left out many details, but after the meeting, I got another chance to tell it in better detail to Cliff and Ranae. This was an exciting experience to be a part of and no matter what you might think; all four of them are very knowledgeable on the subject of Sasquatch. The assistant producer told me that they were planning another show for southeastern Utah at a later date and I was to be invited back. I can hardly wait.

When I was young I watched a lot of the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic, anything that told stories of the world and animals. I then watched a Documentary on the Patterson Gimlin Film, I was from that day on interested in the stories behind Bigfoot. I was about 8 years old and asked my Mom if she believed he was real, she said he sure could be. I have believed he could exist from that day on, and watched, and read more about him, all I could. That, in turn, turned me to ghost hunting, an interest in UFO’s, and all aspects of the paranormal really. That's another story though, well many more stories any way. I am here to talk about my quest so far to find Bigfoot, and my theories on where they could be, why we haven’t found him, and why there are no dead bodies. I will also venture into a bit of my past and our groups methods.

To start out, some of my past. When I was young I started to read many books, my favorite authors being Loren Coleman, and Jeff Meldrum. Those two authors in my mind have the closest theories to my own. I read these books and began to believe more and more, Bigfoot has to exist! So I watched more documentaries, and researched more histories, learning that the story didn’t begin with the Paterson Gimlin Film, only the name Bigfoot coined by a the reporter that brought the story forward. Sasquatch was an ancient name used by Native American tribes of North America, and that was only one of many names! I came to learn that Sasquatch is not a recent known, but an ancient one, past down for generations in Native American Tribes, all a little different, but all had one similarity, the wild man. Then looking further into this, I found that cultures all over the world had their own version. The most famous being the Abominable Snowman or Yeti, known to inhabit the Himalayas of Nepal and Tibet, this version of Bigfoot also received public attention in 1921. After I learned so much I decided to go look for this creature one day, but not after I started my paranormal research group called Untitled Paranormal Investigators or UPI. We began this in 2007, meeting Ron in 2008 and our group ran from there. It wasn’t till after I met Ron that he renewed my interest in Bigfoot, and we began to pursue the subject. To this day we are still searching for great evidence, Ron is our center of Bigfoot research due to his history with other researchers in Utah, and the BFRO. He has successfully collected a few three toed tracks, reports from all over Utah, especially South Eastern Utah, and has seen Bigfoot himself, which I hole heartedly believe. I only hope one day I get to run into this elusive creature, and find the evidence to prove he exists if not only for myself and maybe everyone!

Enough about my past, a little about how UPI goes about this. When we receive a report, we dispatch a member to check it out, usually Ron Johnson. He has the most experience in the field and usually receives the reports. If Ron finds the report to be compelling enough to look into we make a date to go and stay a few nights. Not always so easy as most of us work full time jobs, when we get the date set we head to the area of interest and set up a base camp. We then hike the area for miles searching for evidence and documenting the sighting area’s. We also try and interview the person that had the sighting, also not always easy because many people are afraid to come forward to give a full report. Seeing a Bigfoot is viewed as crazy to the norm, so we like to keep our clients identities safe. We never disclose their name unless given permission to do otherwise. After we conclude our investigation we take all, if any, evidence and the story and put it out there for all to see. If we find any evidence such as tracks or hair we take  it to the proper entities to examine them, and place them out there on the web for all to see as well. The main objective behind our group is to put this evidence out there for the general public to see, we then let them decide what to believe.

My personal theories to answer a lot of questions many always ask are as follows. To answer the question of why hasn't he been caught alive with all the people in the woods, or shot by a hunter? My answer is, there are thousands of square miles of forest, desert, and wild lands in North America alone that is often vacant of humans, and very few Bigfoot in North America. If this creature is highly intelligent, then he could avoid anyone that they hear or see in the woods. Deer, Bear, Cougar, they all succeed in evading humans to a point, and they do not harbor vast intelligence. The Mountain Gorilla of Africa was known by Science to be a myth until its discovery in 1902, only 60 years before the Patterson Gimlin film. So many new species are discovered daily, the day will come soon the find proof of Sasquatch. So if there is so few Bigfoot, and such a massive habitat no wonder why we haven't found him, especially if he hides from view. I also believe they travel in family groups, perhaps up to five in one, and maybe one of these groups per state or two that has a volume of common sightings. Utah has had a flurry of sighting in 2012 to 2013 in South Eastern Utah, our own Ron Johnson including. I believe these Sasquatch could have migrated from the high Uinta’s or Wasatch front, even Colorado in a family group in search of new feeding grounds. If Bigfoot are always on the move, only residing in one area for a short period of time then we only get that window to research them. So my answer in short is, they move in family groups across vast amounts of forbidding terrain to avoid human eyes. We think we have some to research, then they move on.

Another common question I get is where are the dead? Usually being veteran outdoorsman asking me this I answer, how often do you run into a random dead cougar, or bear? They usually say, “never”. So then I answer, I do know they are found, but imagine only one passing on per 1000 square miles in the most remote place you can find. A body decomposes within days in the mountains, bones then spread from hell to high breakfast by predators. Good luck ever finding that dead body unless one is hit by a truck even then there are reports of that happening only to have them disappear. One more thing to add to this, what if they are intelligent enough to bury their dead? Chimpanzees, elephants, and even magpies are know to hold some kind of ritual for their dead. Image a Sasquatch, they must have an intelligence to have been at our side this long and not been caught, and had such a prevalence with Native Americans and other cultures world wide. I believe they are smart enough to at least hide if not bury their own dead. There are even stories of hunters killing a Bigfoot, knowing where the body was only to find it gone the next day. Showing that the other must have come back for it.

Those answers pretty much sum up my theories, I believe Sasquatch travel in family groups within a massive expanse of land. They possibly bury their dead, and are extremely intelligent, enough so to know that human are no good, and to stay out of their reach and prying eyes! So why not, I completely believe in the Sasquatch of Native Americans, Bigfoot of today’s North American west coast, Yeti of the Himalayas, Wendigo of Canada, Yowie of Australia, Skunk Ape of the North American deep south, Orang Pendek of Sumatra, Yeren of China, Mapinguari of South America and all the others out there one day to be recognized by science and protected forever. In my mind there is no way that for thousands of years, these creatures are merely folk lore, legend, and stories, rather I believe they are all real, hidden creatures waiting to be found.
